Small Business Subcontracting Effort

Webb Electric Company: A "Small Business"

Webb Electric Company is continually looking for Small, Small-Disadvantaged, Women-Owned and HUBZone businesses for subcontracting opportunities. Interested parties should contact us via the Contact Page.

Webb Electric Company is a Small Business under the NAICS Economic Census of 1997. Our annual volume of work is usually around $10 million which places us under the $12 million threshold currently assigned to NAICS code 235310. We are a specialty electrical contractor that self performs much of our own work. This makes us very competitive in the electrical and utility construction markets. However, it sharply reduces the number of subcontractors we need to perform our projects. Therefore, we rely heavily upon purchasing our materials from Small, Small Disadvantaged, 8(a), Woman Owned, HUBZone and Veteran owned businesses. We are usually able to meet the goals intended for large businesses in our subcontracting plans. When we have trouble finding firms to meet our small business goals we seek them out in one or several of the following ways:

  1. Placing an advertisement in the local news paper
  2. We check and utilize the SBA's PRONET Internet site.
  3. We have purchased and regularly consult the National Minority Business Directory "Try Us 2000" that contains listings of minority businesses broken down by state.
  4. Visit the Small Business Liaisons assigned to the government activity for the purpose of obtaining assistance and advice on how to locate small business, small disadvantage business, woman owned business and HUB zone business concerns in the local area.
  5. We consult with the local Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC).

Joint Ventures/Mentoring

Since the fall of 2000 Webb Electric Company of Florida Inc. has entered into joint ventures with two Small Disadvantaged, 8(a), HUBZone businesses for the performance of U.S. government contracts. Currently, we are joint venturing with Far East Construction Corporation out of Prospect Heights , Illinois for projects at the Hines VA Medical Center and at the Naval Hospital at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center . In addition, our Mentoring Agreement with JEI, Inc. (also a Small Disadvantaged, 8(a), HUBZone business) out of Waukegan , Illinois has recently been approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration. We look forward to future joint venture projects with Far East and JEI. We take pride in working with small disadvantaged businesses. We strive to share our business management knowledge and leadership skills with our small business partners. The goal of these joint venture endeavors is to teach our partners some of the skills we have learned in our forty years of business so that they can graduate from the Small Disadvantaged and 8(a) programs with the ability to prosper on their own.
